Designed to incorporate ideas from the past into a new era and honour Nike’s legacy of technical innovation, the Nike x Off-White Rubber Dunk is the latest stunning result of a successful collaboration. In a new and incredibly sporty guise, two iconic brands, two names that have now become leaders in the sneaker industry, have come together again this time. Off-White’s creative director, Virgil Abloh, underlined his desire to give “the beginning of something new, which has cultural relevance, together with Nike.”
With a particular emphasis on the Air sole, the Nike X Off-White Rubber Dunk combines elements of the Nike Pegasus and Nike Dunk in the design. In fact, as is now tradition in Nike sneakers, the Air unit is clearly visible in the heel and guarantees the shoes a high cushioning capacity. The top is inspired by the late 90s and early 2000s technical running shoes and is a perfectly successful combination of performance and fashion attitude. The element which is inevitable? Of course, the iconic orange Zip-Tie from Off-White.
The Rubber Dunk comes in three different colours with references to different eras of running shoes, even in this case. The gold celebrates Atlanta ’96 directly, the white is a tribute to the colour combinations of the 2000s’ general versions and the black, well, Abloh says, “A black sneaker is my reference point for the life of all.” The Nike x Off-White Rubber Dunk, introduced in February 2020 and already loved by sneaker nutters around the world, will be launched on SNKRS, nike.com and at selected retailers starting October 1st in adult and child sizes.
